History

The History of Ace

In the summer of 1943, a young teacher in Rochester, Minnesota, wanted to supplement his income during the summer vacation months. He decided to lease 60 acres of farm land and raise sweet corn. With a recently purchased 1-½ ton Ford truck, he hauled his crop to market in the twin cities. Although Rochester is just eighty miles away, his corn came in slightly later than the local corn. Needless to say, the market was satisfied by the time his corn arrived and this summer venture was not profitable.

Rebounding from his setback, the young man put his truck to use the following summer by entering the local moving market. In the summer of 1945, he made his first interstate move, from Rochester to Lawton, Oklahoma, grossing $200. He purchased his first van in 1948. By 1950, the business had grown sufficiently to provide full-time employment for his brother who had just finished a tour in the Armed Services. By 1953, the man left his teaching career behind, teaming up with his brother full-time in the moving and storage business.

This is the story of John U. Steiner and his brother Fred W. Steiner. By 1956 their sister Margaret Johannes joined the team with the opening of Ace-Milwaukee. Over the next 30-plus years, this family and their children put together a group of moving companies that spans this country.

Today, the Ace World Wide Group consists of thirteen companies which work cooperatively to deliver the finest
service worldwide.
